Csci  140, CSCI 109, 213 & 218  are being offered as online courses (section HQ). YOU must

1.      Download the orientation Information  Orientation Document download.

2.      Demonstrate that you meet all the computer requirements listed below to do your work at home. These items are not necessary if you will be using the computer labs at the college, but be warned – you may not always have a computer available to you on campus.

·         Hardware

1.      Pentium IV or Higher IBM Compatible computer

2.      3 ½  floppy drive/zip/usb flash drive or a hard-dive

3.      Modem with a 28.8 or faster connection

·         Software

2.      Web Browser that is java-enabled

3.      Know how to use your webmail.sscc.edu email account

4.      Know how to Upload and Download files on your computer

5.      Adobe Acrobat Reader plugin on your computer

·         Microsoft Word for CSCI 109 Office 2007

7.      If you do not have Office 2007, A reliable Internet Service Provider (ISP) AOL users cannot work within their AOL browser – you must minimize AOL and open a session in Netscape or Internet Explorer.

How do I register for the class?

You register in the usual way.  The online courses will be listed as HC.  Once you enroll in a course, you are required to email the instructor before the schedule orientation.  Send your email to:

What are the computer requirements for taking the web-supported courses?

You must have daily access to a computer with an internet connection.  If you are going to do all your work at home, be sure to meet all these minimum requirements.  If you are going to use the computer labs at Southern State Community College, be sure you have access time available to you when the labs can be used. All students must have email accounts with attachment capabilities. 

 

Why Should I consider taking a course online?

Online courses help break down barriers of time and space for students.  They provide a convenient and flexible alternative for students that face scheduling problems or have difficulties getting to campus.

 

Who should take online courses?

Students that are self motivated do very well at Distant Education courses.
